Christianity and mediaeval music
-------In mediaeval Europe, the power
of church was higher than the state and others social groups.At that
time, all ideologies including all kinds of arts and philosophies
service church. So mediaeval music had unusual development by dint
of Christianity.It was very correlative to Christianity from theory
to music book and from chorus and tutti to instrument and teaching
of music.Modern symphony and mordern opera mostly depict common customs
in content , but they have countless ties with church. That churchy
music first adopted the Judaic music such as singing psalm and elocnting
Bible was pure vocality. Churchy music always gave priority to vocality
because vocality had lyric. Quite the contrary, Musical instrument
mainly develpoed by way of mundane music.It was the important character
that music was from single tone to multiple tone. Besides, mediaeval
music also further developed in theory and finished counterpoint and
line music. Meanwhile tronbone and trumpet were very popular,too.

diction. Roman music is one of the greatest monumental inheritances
in history of world art. This kind of music had no chord and obbligato
and its character was unison. It uttered solemn chord by echo of patio
of church. Its naive and clear religious feeling was exactly the same
to architecture of church. Roman music was one of the most important
mediaeval music. The first representative was Gregorian Chant which
was a kind of typical papistic music and was pure and single tune
song. In endless history, Gregorian Chant had made important contribute
to music.

to sacred music and the musical activities were limit to church. Folk
music was forbidden, but there were many wandering singers and poets.
These artists who were poor and low in social class were critical
of shackleing music. They spreaded common customs music abroad by
all ways. This kind of music was very closed to folkway. In Revival
of Learning, the kind of music replaced sacred music gradually and
became the mainstream of musical art.
